Rainy Day Procedures for Kindergarten

Kindergarten parents:

In the event that it is sprinkling/raining before your child begins school, please do not have your child line up on the playground.  Please walk your child to the front of the kindergarten classrooms (Growing Room parking lot).  The teachers will have their classroom doors open so your child can enter.

Thank you,

The Kindergarten Team

http://hiddenhillselementarysch.schoolauction.net/masqueradeball2016

Frequent responses for NOT attending:

·         I don’t have childcare.

o   Problem solved – The Growing Room is open that evening for your children to hang out together!

·         I don’t feel comfortable going.

o   Problem Solved – If we ALL go… everyone feels more comfortable!

·         I’m not sure how much money I can give.

o   Problem Solved – JUST COME! Show your support by just being there! I bet there is something you will see that evening that fits into your budget!

Reasons for saying YES to attending:

·         Your child sees that you support their school and their education!

·         You are showing the community that you are committed to making HH the best school in our district!

·         You get a night out without the kids!

·         You get to see your child’s teacher….YES, I am going!

ARE YOU UP FOR A CHALLENGE?

·         Let’s see if our class can get 1 table of 8-10 of you to attend the Masquerade Ball! Reach out to friends in the class and make a plan to go online and reserve a table for 8-10 people! Let me know when we have reserved a table! I KNOW WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN FOR YOUR CHILDREN!

·         Think about it….that’s 4 or 5 couples, or do a girls’ night out, or a boys’ night out! There are lots of possibilities!

Tardy Procedure

We believe that tardies will be significantly reduced by planning on arriving to school well before the bell rings.  Whether you are dropping your child off or he/she is walking to school, please help us in addressing this problem by having your student arrive on time.  If your child is not inside the kindergarten gates and in line by 8:15AM, for the AM friends or 11:40 for the PM friends when the bell rings, they will be considered late.  All gates to the kindergarten play yard will also be closed.  If you arrive late, and the gates are closed, you will need to walk your child to the front office to receive a tardy slip.  Please do not try to enter through the child’s classroom door as it will disrupt classroom learning.  Students will not be admitted into class without a tardy slip.

As we are concerned about your child’s safety, if you know you are tardy please do not send your child to the play yard unattended as the gates will be locked and there will be no playground supervision once class has started.  Children that arrive late will be kept in the front office for a few minutes and walked back to class by a staff member as our gates to the play yard will be closed.

Please make every effort to have your child at school on time.  Arriving on time supports our classroom learning and eliminates classroom disruption.  We appreciate your help with this matter.

 Sincerely,

The Kindergarten Team

IMPORTANT:

Parking is PROHIBITED on Albion Way. The San Ramon Police Department will be enforcing and ticketing any vehicle parked on Albion Way. Signs are posted and it is a danger to our children when cars are parked in the bike lane.

PM Drop Off:  Please make sure you remain in your car. It is a safety and efficiency issue so we prefer the students to unbuckle themselves.

All Parents: DO NOT park across the street and walk towards Hidden Hills without a crosswalk. This is considered jaywalking, is not safe and SRPD will ticket for this as well.

Volunteer Clearance

As with every new school year there is always a few new procedures. This year one of the new procedures has to do with the approval process for Volunteers, Drivers and Overnight Chaperones. It is called the Volunteer Management System (VMS),  run by the company called Be A Mentor, Inc. This new system requires that all those wanting to be a Volunteer and/or Driver and/or Overnight Chaperone must apply to do so online, via Be A Mentor’s website. It is of the utmost importance to have our parents/families members begin the application process immediately. This is a one-time application process. Once you are cleared, you will not have to apply again during the remainder of your student(s) school years at SRVUSD.

Our first Kindergarten fieldtrip will be in approximately one month. With that in mind, please submit your Volunteer clearance application ASAP in order to be considered as a chaperone for the fieldtrip.

Homework Info

Complete the HOME READ ALOUD PROGRAM each week.

  • The writing paper will be posted in the Kinder  Locker. The program instructions and guide questions can be kept at home.

  • Students only need to respond to 1 journal question. Encourage your child to “tell me more” to go into more detail with answers/explanations.

  • Students must write their own responses.  Do NOT SPELL for your child.

  • Students are responsible for doing his/her own illustrations.  Please encourage students to add lots of detail and background to their pictures.  They should color their pictures using at least 5 colors.

  • Return the Journal page on Friday.

  • The homework is meant to be spread out over the whole week, not completed in one sitting. It should be about 10-15 minutes each night.

Thank you for taking the time to work with your child at home. Happy Reading!

Please feel free use the activities to support your child's success. They are a great resource to help your child become a better reader and writer,  however are not required.
