Happy summer! Our first graders have grown so much this year. The best way for them to continue learning is to experience our world – go to museums, the parks, the beach, the city, your backyard garden – explore! Play board games together and apply critical thinking, logic, and math skills while learning good sportsmanship. Cook together – measure ingredients and keep track of time. Join in team sports. Pick up a musical instrument or sing. Have them relax and replenish their energy for a busy year in second grade.
Here are some supplemental activities and hands-on games. Click on the blue, bold-faced topics below to view and print documents.
Reading - Read daily and answer Booktalk Questions. Play games: Yahtzee, Scrabble, Boggle, Sight word Bingo.
Math – Play Math Card Games to master math facts. Play board games: Hi Ho Cherry O, Monopoly, Candy land. We are adopting Engage NY as our math program for next year. Great minds is the program publisher, see weblinks below for information.
Fine Motor – Be artsy and crafty – use crayons, paints, markers, scissors and glue. Play with clay or play dough. Build with lego. Use Handwriting Pages if you are still working on your letter formation.
